Und noch ein "Dear Host Family"-letter

Hallo  Ich habe heute meinen Dear Host Family-letter fertiggestellt. Über Anregungen und Hilfe sowohl zum Inhaltlichen, als auch zum Sprachlichen würde ich mich sehr freuen

Dear Host family,

First of all I want to thank you for reading my letter and for giving me the chance to give you a little impression of me and the reasons why I would like to become a Demi Pair in Australia.

My name is XXX and I was born on the XXX. I am living together with my family in a small town near XXX in Germany. My mother is a doctor and my father works as a civil servant in a ministry. I have two siblings, my brother XXX is 16 years old and my sister XXX is 12 years old. My family is very important to me, we have a very close relationship and we can talk about everything. Of course I will miss them while my stay in Australia but I am very excited about to make new experiences in a foreign country and about to get to know your family.

I would describe myself as an open-minded, friendly and reliable person. I am going to finish school this summer and before I am going to start my studies I would like to get to know a new country and new people. It was always a great dream of mine to go to another country after school. I think that the Demi Pair-program is a great possibility to realize this dream. I am going to study business administration; this is one reason why I want to improve my English. Apart from that I think that speaking English is expected these days, it is even embarrassing if you do not speak English well. To me the Demi Pair-program seems perfect to combine learning English and getting to know the Australian culture. The advantage of this program by contrast to other programs, like for example “Work & Travel”, is that I can live with an Australian family and so I can experience your way of live. I am very interested in the Australian culture. I read and saw a lot about Australia and I think that it is a very impressing and fascinating country that is very different to Germany. The nature is absolutely impressing and also the “easygoing”-way of life of the Australian people seems likable to me. And of course also the Australian weather is much better than in Germany .

In my free time I do horse-riding and other sports like bicycling and jogging. There is a climbing gym in our town where I sometimes go with my friends. Moreover I was part of a swimming team for 6 years, so I am a very good swimmer and I would love to go swimming with your kids, too. I also did equestrian vaulting for 10 years and helped as an assistant at the training. I am very creative and love to draw and to do handicrafts, so I would also like to do this together with your kids. Moreover I enjoy meeting my friends, watching movies at the cinema and reading a good book. I also love to travel, but until now I have only been in Europe, for example in Rome, Paris, Barcelona and Stockholm. I usually travel together with my family or my four best friends XXX, XXX, XXX and XXX.

Now I would like to tell you something about my experiences with children.

I did a lot of babysitting for several families. The kids were mostly between 4 and 12 years old. It was often in the evening, so we played something together, I made a light evening meal, the kids got ready for bed and sometimes I read out for them. For example I took care of a 5-year old boy, his name is XXX. I often took care of him in the daytime while his parents were at work or also in the evenings. We went to the play field or played together. Normally he was a very good boy but sometimes we had little discussions, mostly when I wanted him to go to bed or to eat his vegetables. I think it is normal that kids want to test their constraints and you should not let unsettle yourself.

Additionally I gave private lessons to an 8-year old girl for two years. We did her homework together and exercised the subject matters. I had a lot of fun during this lessons because I loved the moment when the girl understood something she did not understand before. I am a very good student, I have only A’s at school, and I think that I could help your kids with their homework if necessary.

As I already said I helped at an assistant at equestrian vaulting training. The kids were between 8 and 15 years old. One could describe equestrian vaulting as “gymnastics on a horse”. I love this sport but of course it is also risky. Because of that it was very important that the kids trusted and respected me. We had a lot of fun together and I learn how to assert myself.

Furthermore I often take care of my siblings, especially my little sister. My parents work full-time and so I often make lunch for us, help with the homework and drive her to her friends and hobbies. I am also used to do little homework like vacuum-cleaning or ironing.
My siblings and I often spent some days alone in the last few years, when my parents went on holidays. In these days I had to look after the household, like the laundry and cleaning.

I love to take care of children and I think that I am prepared well for the job as an Au Pair. For sure it will not be only fun and also stressful sometimes but I think that it will please me anyway.

I have passed my driver’s license in January 2009 and I drive almost daily without any accidents or tickets since then.

I also worked as an assistant at a first aid course for 5 years, so I am very familiar with this.

All in all, I want to thank you for reading my letter and I would be very happy if you would like to get to know me better. I am very excited and can not wait to go to Australia. I am looking forward to be an Au Pair and also a family member of your family.

Yours,
XXX
